X300 4.0 random start issue
Thx for your reply. Could you please tell me how impending pump failure can be connected with just relay issue? This is interesting. Fuel pump works fine I think, pressure is OK, no signs of upcoming issue or wierd sound.
Excess current draw weakens the relay. Could be just the relay as the blue ones are known to be troublesome, but keep a sharp eye out..if you blow another relay or the fuel pump fuse, you'll probably want to start planning a fuel-pump renewal.
One of my 96's refused to start and I found this in the fuel pump relay slot:

Replaced it and fired right up and pulled into the shop...but it's a kid's car, so rather than trying to milk the last bits of life out of the pump, I just changed it out....had one on-hand anyway. It's been said fuel pump failure and crank position sensor failures are fairly common on the X300 around 100,000 miles. This one was at 108k, I think. On the other hand, my 95 is at 211k and on the original pump and CKPS.
