X300 Gearshift Interlock Issue - FIXED
Hello Everyone,
This is my first post. After searching for an answer to my question and not finding the specific issue posted I figured it was time to ask for help from the experts. So here goes.
I have a 1997 Jaguar XJ6 or X300 whichever you prefer. I replaced the gearshift interlock because I was having a problem with blowing fuses and it not wanting to come out of park. After replacing the Lucas part #DBC 11071 I cannot start the car in park it will start in neutral and it does shift out of park. Before replacing the part it would not shift out of park unless I removed the torx screw located next to the shifter and poked a thin rod into the hole to release the gear-shifter.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike- aka...JagerX

Your NEW, so WELCOME aboard.
OK, when the gearlever is in "P" is the "P" lit up (reddish in colour)????. If not then the switch pack on the RH side of the J gate needs "tweaking" so as to achieve this light up.
I had to remove my switch pack and file the mounting holes into a slight oval to get it spot on. the holes as is are slightly larger than the screws and most are OK, our XJ40 was fine with a simple loosen and push and shove until contact was made.
NO IDEA why changing that solenoid would reek havoc, but it is British after all, haha.
If that "P" lights up and you still got no start, then my first option would be the switch itself, NOT common. It is mostly the adjustment for "P" that is the issue.
Let us know what you find, that way the archives stay updated.

Update!
Hi Grant,
Thank you for the quick response.
"when the gearlever is in "P" is the "P" lit up (reddish in colour)????." Yes it does glow red.
It turns out after replacing both blue relays under the center console below the gear-shift area it is now working fine.
Thanks for the help!
Mike
