Hi folks, this past week we had the windsheild replaced because of a large crack. All went well, except that there is now no mount on the glass for the rear view mirror. I'll be calling the glass company to try and retreive the old one. But something else has come up. The mirror that was there is I think an aftermarket mirror that was not factory. It mounted to the cracked glass with a generic glue on mount like I had in my old buick. I've seen them hanging in the auto parts stores
All searches I've done do far talk about a self dimming mirror. I have one of these in my other car so I know what they do. But I see no wiring/connector for this in our X300. Did all the X300's come with this type of mirror or did some come with a standard mirror?

X300 came with two types of mirror, manual and dimming, there are also two types of mounts, round one where you have to twist it anticlockwise to remove it and more of rectangular where you have to push it down to remove it. Plug for it is hidden under top console, all Jags came with the wiring for it, most will come with a three ping plug, some that have side dimming mirrors will come with four wire plug. You can retrofit a dimming mirror to a car with manual mirror, mounts are the same and its relatively easy process, usually just three cables need connecting, plenty mirrors available on eBay and its one of the three best upgrades for an X300.

 

Thank you. So far I've had no luck getting back the old mirror mount. So right now it has nothing there. My son (owns the car) wants to install a dimming mirror, but presently there is no mirror mount on the glass. So now we're mulling over possibilities.
