1995 XJ6 has a 1994 rear view mirror, needs replacement
My 1995 XJ6 has a 1994 rear view mirror (cam mount round base with the slider on the mirror front) by whatever factory weirdity going on at the time.
Unfortunately the mirror is in a sorry state...
I can find a replacement unit online, but I have no idea how to replace with that cam base....? anyone here know? thanks

Most mirrors release by carefully twisting the mirror so the mounting base turns about 45 degrees clockwise or counterclockwise while the base remains parallel to the windshield/windscreen. Sometimes a slight downward pull toward the dash, also parallel to the glass, is also required. Before removing the mirror, drop the roof console and disconnect the mirror electrical connector so you won't have to do that with the mirror hanging by its wiring harness.
Here's a video that shows the procedure, though he's a little more abrupt than I recommend:

Great info thank you... issue I am having now is finding a good cam mount mirror...!
The mirror in mine is de-laminated with black areas around the edges.
So... if there were a mirror of the same size perhaps I could take the whole thing apart and put a new mirror element in the housing?
Shame because it's a really nice car and just one of those things that's a buqqer..

I replaced my mirror with one from an Acura. What's important is the 3 wires for the auto dimming. The connector is different for Acura...had to solder the original connector in place. Easy enough job, just match the colored wires.
The used mirror was about $30 on the bay, while the mount looked the same i spent about an hour trying to get it to tighten up properly. Eventually I exchanged the metal bracket in the mirror for the original from the old Jag mirror and it fit solid.

Thanks for the tip, I did find the correct replacement mirror on ebay, a good find. The seller jcaudiosound11 had a quantity of two but raised the price from $100 to $199 for the one remaining mirror, after I bought mine..! So you just never know. Thus I was lucky to get mine for $99. Gouging buyers is a rank practice, especially gouging folks who just want to keep their cars and motorcycles running. Thanks again for the response and tip!

Bad timing for me, who just purchased a 1998 XK8 convertible. Any other options?

To bypass the different mounting issue and the adhesion to glass the mirror case can be split with a coin and the internals replaced , even with a cut plain mirror
There is the issue of on the X308 of a sensor that has to do with auto headlights dimming or after dark headlights on ( Canada ) and climate control heavier duty biasing with the sun

You'd have very little chance of splitting the mirror with a coin, they are an absolute ba$terd of a thing to split, especially if you've never done it before. Its easier to just take off the mirror off the mount itself, its only secured to the mount by a metal ring at the back of the mirror, then the ball mount can be pulled out. Quite few different versions of the mirror itself between XK8 and XJ8 and X300, the glass panel itself is the same on all mirrors, then the electronics parts can be vastly different but all models have 3 wires to use for the mirror itself and then extra various wires to deal with other options like rain sensor, side mirrors, etc so if your car have electrochromatic side mirrors then for them to work properly, you'd either need direct replacement or any mirror, then split it and replace just the glass panel itself.
