Exclamation XJ6 leaking abs pump

1996 XJ6 US make-So i have had a abs light on in my dash and my abs pump seems to have a very slow leak that has existed since before i had the jag, because thepaint underneath it is coming off. I tried to see about removing the abs pump but had trouble, does anyone know how to safely remove this and remove the computer from underneath so i can resolder the pins and determine why it leaks and perhaps fix it? Would this also require me to rebleed the system? Thanks for the help guys!

You might want to check the various brake lines at the pump for any leaks. The module can be removed without actually removing the pump itself. It's a bit awkward but worth it for the sake of leaving the pump in place. Removing it and undoing the brake lines will mean a bleed and refill. The module is just held in place with two small torx screws, No.20. The full procedure was posted on here by myself just recently. A quick search should unearth it easily.

Hey So good, so i couldnt find it after some searching, but i will attempt to remove it and check the module. Hopefully thats the issue and it turns the light out. I have to see what is leaking too, although i still have brake pressure so its odd that i have a leak by the abs pump and still have pressure. Furthermore, if i take a hard turn, a red BRAKE light turns on then turns off after the curve. What could that be?

That would be the brake fluid level warning from the master cylinder. As you turn the corner fluid sloshes to the side and turns on the light, and when it settles again turns it off again. So your fluid is too low. Check it now!

If you do a search under "abs" or any posts submitted by me "sogood" you should find it. Only in the last 2 weeks or so, so even scroll back through the posts here. Re-soldering the pins will fix an interruped power supply to the pump, but will do nothing for a leak. As suggested, top up your brake fluid and drive the car to see does that clear the warning light. Then find the leak. Another cause of an abs warning light is dirty wheel sensors. All the above is covered in the aforementioned posts.

Do keep us informed of your progress.

Ok so i topped off the reservoir and no more brake light! Thanks for the help. The fluid level has decreased gradually over time because of The abs pump leak. I have posted a picture of the leak. I cleaned it a bit with a napkin but you get the idea.

The leak could be just from the pipe union. If you clean/degrease the area thoroughly and dry it, then place some tissue paper around the pipe unions secured with a rubber band or cable tie for a couple of days it will identify if that is the culprit. Have you checked the unions to confirm they are tight?

to remove the module, you will unfasten the pump/module assembly and pull the whole mess upward/forward and roll it toward the center of the engine bay in a great arc until you can gain tool access to the module fixings. Yes, you will slightly bend the brake lines a bit. Probably best to isolate your leak point first, so you will know you haven't created a new one on re-installation.
