Default XJR 100 Q

I Know, I know, wrong board. I'm asking here first the advice of my fellow X300 owners as I'm thinking of replacing my XJ6L with my friends XJR100, the issue is this....it's got 45k on it, it's last three of the vin is "500" which makes it the last one (I think) the thing is the original supercharger went when he put the larger pulley on it and he replaced it with a used unit with 70k on it and it's "grumbling". Is this worth fixing?, easy as a bearing, coupler, snout kit? I'll ask over on the right board later, just looking for x300 feedback first.

How will you live without the AJ16???

Really, that's a serious upgrade. It's a 2002 model, right? The boosted V8 and other upgrades must make it feel like a race car compared to the XJ6.

The X308 is a different breed, under the hood. And adding a booster tends to make it meaner in a lot of ways! How is your knowledge level with X308?

How about owning both, and taking your time to get to know each other?

The 100 is short wheelbase, vs. long for the XJ6L. Incentive to keep the six?

I'm a littler tired of the mini limo, my friends letting me drive it a couple days, so far it's night and day from the six.

Personally speaking having had both an x308 xjr and an x300 4ltr I would take the 6 cyl ALL DAY LONG. The xjr was a touchy thoroughbred that I was always afraid would kick me in the ***....which it did. I think the x300 is a much more solid and upstanding member of society to live with. But grunt wise the xjr was a beast and the interior was better thought out. What about an xjr6 ?

the grumble is probably just the plastic coupler in the nose - an easy fix, and not a reason to be put off the car. You can buy kits on the internet with a new coupler and oil for an oil change
probably be wary of the green plastic couplers. The correct ones have 3 holes, and 3 slots with spring-loaded thingies in them, presumably to absorb some torque

I picked up the original supercharger last night, it seems ok but there's a slight clunk as the rotors seem to slightly rub. I'm going to send it off for rebuild and piece of mind. I took the belt off the one on the car and it doesn't seem to have free play till the rotors engage as a faulty coupler would. I could care less about the one on the car, it spins through fine with no belt on so I assume the grumbling is faulty center bearings allowing the rotors the slightly rub. I'll drive it limited amount till the original is rebuilt. Anyone looking for a pristine example of an X300😁
