Default XJR gearbox playing up

I've just had a LOT of work done on my XJR including a gearbox oil and filter change. Since getting the car back from the garage however the box seems reluctant to get rolling from a standstill, especially when cold, and the changes don't feel as smooth as before. It was filled with good quality ATF DII

I've checked the oil level as per the owners manual and it seems fine, though I have known some autobox dipsticks to be inaccurate. Anyone have any suggestions?

To top all my spending off, I've just had the front screen shattered by a flying rock and it appears the TB needs cleaning

Fluid level:

I recall seeing a TSB where Jaguar recommended keeping the fluid right up to the "Max" level....as opposed to merely keeping it within the "safe" range shown on the dipstick.

So, that's what I do. In my experience it *does* make a difference. Maybe they realized too late that the dipstick calibration wasn't optimal and thus the tech bulletin?

Also, check the level only after driving a good 10-15 miles. The fluid has to be HOT for a good reading.

Cheers

ThanksDoug. I feels like low fluid level but I didn't want to overfill it and be in a bigger world of pain! How much do you reckon it'll take to get it to full - it's 1/3 up the hot marker now.

As I recall it takes one US quart to take the level from the bottom of the "safe" zone to the "max" line. If I understand you correctly you'll need a bit less than that.

Hopefully this will solve your problem!
