Hi all, as you know the exterior window trim for UK and European XJR6s was satin black rather than chrome.
The exterior trim strips on the inside of the front door windows ran down to the bottom of the A-pillar at the front of the car and were finished off neatly with a slim end-cap. The width of the trim strip and roughly 4 or 5 cm long, made from plastic. The problem with them is that after years of UV exposure they disintegrate and few if any cars will probably have their trim end-caps now.
I'd really like to recreate them again, but need some pictures for reference if anyone has any please?
The bottom forward plastic end piece of the driver side window lower chrome trim on mine has broken from age brittleness
This makes a candidate for a plastic 3D printer that the FOB battery cover has been done for , but the final smoothness is a question if can be smoothed out
There is a seller on E- bay in Paris , California that is a source of the complete chrome piece with black plastic fwd end piece
In your situation a chrome long original piece with a black film from the auto parts store may be an option

Thanks for your reply. 3D printing is probably the way forward, smoothing/sanding shouldn't be a problem with some of the modern plastics a nice smooth finish should be possible.
Do you have a link for the eBay seller by any chance so I can see what you mean? Thanks.
Here are the details of the dripping moulding...
I am also considering whether to do a plastic detail scan, realize the project and evaluate how much it can cost...
At what price would you be available to buy it...?

I'm wondering if the end caps could be simplified and just become a slip-on sleeve that finished the end of the metal trim off neatly?
This could make production a lot simpler. And they don't really have to be perfect, I mean nobody would notice the difference apart from a handful of XJR6 anoraks!
I'm happy to help support you in this project, maybe we could work on it together? I've just finished recreating some Maserati wheel centre caps that are no longer in production, and have sold many sets through a Maserati forum and eBay. Again, the reason I started on that project was because I'd unsuccessfully spent years looking for a new set for my car.

Yes, of course I agree that the realization of the plastic terminal can be simplified ... However, I would have to understand how much the reproduction project of the piece would cost and how many owners of X300 and X308 may be affected... 😊

I see what you mean. I'll leave that for you to work out, but I'd imagine anyone with a X300, XJ6 or XJR6 (X306) not sure if it's exactly the same trim for the X308 would be interested at the right price as I'm sure theirs have probably deteriorated. So, possibly start in the UK with a DVLA report of how many of these cars are on the road? Reproduction costs would probably depend on numbers, a run of 500 being quite pricey per unit and a run of 1000 less so. But basic production costs I'd start by approaching a 3D printer that specialises in car parts to get a rough idea.
My approach to the Maserati project was simply just to create a couple of sets for myself, whatever it cost. I shared what I was doing on the forum and was surprised at how many people made requests to buy a set. So, I started making more sets and ended up selling them on eBay. There aren't a lot of 90s Ghiblis out there so I'm probably close to having saturated the market now. However, because I didn't set out to make a profit selling the caps to other owners it simply became a nice side effect.

Yes you are right, I really like your expression: "nice side effect"... Also because I have always found great help and solidarity from many jag lovers...
I will try to find a solution and you will be the first to know... 😉
