Default “Noisy” dashboard

2003 XJ8- dashboard is creaking and squeaky, seemingly along the front edge at the windshield. Is there a common fix for this? I was going try some rubber stripping anlog the edge against the windshield. Do I need to pull the dashboard and secure it underneath?
Its driving me CRAZY.
Thanks to all.

I folded a small piece of paper and placed it between the windshield and dash years ago to fix that same issue Still works! While driving have someone reach up and put pressure on areas of the dash near the windshield to see if the noise stops to find the area

Years ago I was a service Mgr. for an Oldsmobile dealership. We had a Cutlass with a terrible creak in the dash by the windshield while crossing railroad tracks. After trying everything to insulate the dash with no results, I asked the mechanic to pop the hood release while driving very slowly over the railroad tracks. The noise quit! It was the rubber bumpers at the rear of the hood that were squeaking! We put a dab of lithium grease on all the hood bumpers. Car never came back for that squeak. If your 2003 hood opens at the rear no problem, if it opens from the front, it will catch on the secondary latch.

Now THAT is the most interesting theory I’ve ever heard on this matter! I will certainly check that out and get back! Thank you.

Had a terrible squeek in my XKR conv. Turned out to be outer windshield mldg. rubbing against glass. Inserted small piece of rubber tape in offending areas. A maddening problem solved. I had made a 1100mi trip with it.

.

I had a squeak from the instrument panel area, turned out it was just the burl wood instrument surround, By pressing on it the squeak would stop, so I cut and inserted one of those soft cupboard door pads under it, and.....silence. So much silence that I could now hear an occasional squeak from the dash in front of the passenger seat, turned out this was the glove box, which has adjustable latches, a quick adjustment and............. hey presto, cured!

I have a couple of the vents that are cracked myself. Looked everywhere I could think of and found the same thing! That surely must be the rarest of little parts to find. If I run across a set, I will let you know!

A 3D printer & the proper colored material would prove useful w/ these cars (pontificates) lol.

Yep, I hear those 3D printers are getting cheaper by the minute.......but maybe not quite into our economic price range yet!

I've found #4 on eBay but it's missing a tab & dirty, sure I can clean it but w/ the missing tab I'm not sure it would remedy the noise issue that lead to this in the 1st place.

Update :

Went ahead & removed the fractured part of the grille, it made it much quieter instantly. I pinpointed the remaining creak to where the dash meets the windshield, I inserted about a 3 inch long piece of corrugated cardboard into the space between dash & windshield. It's almost silent, a vast improvement ! I initially tried white paper folded up, but the stark white on my tan dash drew my eye the wrong way. Now it's just how long it will take my missing the left hand part of grille to irk me lol.

My defroster plastic just below the windshield does not fasten down all the way, will creak when it's cold. Unsure how to access to fix it.
