Default '00 Jaguar XJ8 Vandan Plas - Rear View Mirror Removal

To all - first of all, thank you to everyone for the help I have gotten on this site, it has been invaluable. With that said, I have another issue. I have a replacement rear view mirror for my 2000 Jaguar XJ8 Vandan Plas. However for the life of me, I cannot figure out the way to remove the old mirror, there must be some kind of hidden set screw, clip etc. that is a trick to get it to come off. Also not sure if you slide it up or down when trying to take it off once it releases - I am assuming up but not really sure.

If anyone, knows a way to remove the rearview mirror and has either a description, pictures or video, that would be great. Thank you in advance for your help yet once again.

Slide straight down paralel to glass. To install the new one put a small standard screw driver in the small square hole(there are 2 side by side) and use that to pry between the mirror and mount till the new mirror snaps onto the mount fully then put the plastic cover back on. Do not hit the mirror or you will break the windshield

Hello Dave,
I have a 2000 XJ8 but not VDP only the Sovereign model but the rear view mirror should be fitted the same way.
Had my windscreen replaced last year and took the opportunity to get some photo's of the rear view mirror and the bracket on the windscreen itself.
You pull it down to remove, keeping it at the same angle as the glass.
Push it up to put back on.
No hidden screws,it is a tight fit and you have to use a fair bit of force so you have to keep the angle the same as the windscreen and you should be ok.
Back of rear view mirror

Bracket on the new windscreen
Hope that helps.
Good luck
Andy
