Default 1998 Super8 lost key fob

Hi there, I have recently bought a 1998 Daimler (Jaguar) Super 8 and have been loving it so far. Today I noticed that the square fob is missing it must have dropped somewhere, but I still have the physical key. I think im right in saying that the transponder that makes the car recognise my key is in the physical key and not the fob that I lost? The car still seemed to open, close and start with the physical key. Any help is much appreciated!

You’re correct. Can buy fob on Amazon for a few bucks. If had one, easy to buy another just by matching numbers on back. I have a 2002. Don’t know if all 2002s the same and likewise with 1998.

The key transponder and keyfob transmitter are two completely unrelated features.
You don't NEED the transmitter. It is a convenience.
You do need the transponder and TIBBE key cut to run the car.

The keyfob transmitters are different from the 1998 to 2000MY cars to the 2001 onward X308.
The 'rolling-code' transmitters are the difference.

Hi both, thank you very much for your help, much appreciated! That’s good then that I have the physical cut key which is the important bit, the first thing I’ll do is get a second key cut and coded as I only have one and I imagine if I lose that it’ll be a complete pain! Then I’ll have a look into getting a replacement fob (although I do quite like using the physical key to unlock and lock it feels more classic!) Thanks again
