I'm thinking the brake switch should take care of the failsafe message. The cruise control had stopped working as well and research pointed to this switch.

I have a used one coming for $45 from Ebay.

 

Last night I checked all fuse boxes to make sure everything is secure. Checked air breather for holes, all hoses are connected, and then removed battery cable for a few minutes and re-connected.

Today, no messages and cruise control is working. It may be temporary. Who knows!

There are just too many electronics and various parts that can fail on the jag.

I'd rather have a new baby! Well! Maybe not....

I'm not a tinkerer or someone that constantly likes to fix or improve things. I want to do gas, oil, and tires then ride.

 

Update:

The failsafe engine mode error is fixed.

I ordered and replaced the brake light switch with a used one. This came from Ebay about $45.

This was a total pain in the a$$ to do myself but result is this.

1. No more errors on dash
2. Cruise now works
3. Temp gauge works
4. Engine starts first time every time (don't known if this was the fix or if temp)

 

Jag is now for sale.

 

I was reading this thread and am totally amazed AND thankful that I have found Jaguar Forums. The wealth of knowledge and the willingness to share it is a resource that is almost unequaled.


I may be on the opposite end of a tranny issue. I have been off-on with a potential seller of a 1998 90K mile XJ8. He recently had contacted me to let me know that he was soon ready to move on selling it. The other day, Drive went out on the tranny but Reverse is fine. I am going to look at it tonight to see if his loss is my gain!


Local Jag mechanic (where it currently sits) confirms that it is the trans, but did not go into detail yet. I will find out tonight.
