Exclamation 1998 XJ8L Trunk button not working

Keyless trunk release does not work, button inside vehicle driver side does not open it either, only way i can open it is with the key. i bought the car like this.

when pressing the buttons inside or outside trunk button, i dont hear anything, is there a fuse to this i can check?

i would love to get it working again.

Thanks in advance guys!

It's controlled by the body control module - there's a common fault with the wiring to the right hand boot hinge, it snakes into the trunk panel, opening and closing action over time cracks and splits the wires. You've to eyeball each wire individually by stripping back the loom tape to check. The wires might not have an obvious break so thin or weak looking wires need cut and rejoin. It may also be a faulty switch, but check the wiring first.

I found a black wire on mine, soldered/shrink tube and got it working.

Hope this helps.

You can often find a broken conductor strand inside intact insulation by gently stretching the wire. You'll see the insulation 'neck down' at the break.
Obvious, I know.

Looked at all the wires and they seem to be looking fine, and so does the #10 10amp fuse in the trunk... Im figuring it could be the button mentioned earlier,
still investigating, i could not get a good pick of the wires on the latch, but they all seem fine,
:P

Here is another current forum thread with electrical issues concerning the trunk lid that may be of some help with your trunk release problem (look at post# 2):
