I just had my headliner replaced and it look great!!! To bad the shop blew a fuse putting it back together. I had to put my car in drive by using a screw driver until we figured out what they did!!! No fun, but she is back in action!!!

Just to chip in.. After I bought my '99 XJ8 (silver/off white hide on black) I looked up and found the off white headlining looks like its been skinned from a leopard (not a jaguar). dark little patches everywhere. Left it because I quite like it plus it kinda looks like its strangely supposed to be that way... Surely can't be?!?!?

I have a 03 XJ8 and replaced it myself with no problems. It's about a 4 hr job if you have a good space to work and all the tools on hand. There is a company on line that sells the headliners and high quality adhesive.

Think you all could save some money if you do it your self, very easy job done in about 3 hours.Bought the fabric on e-bay 3 yards very close match, and two cans of 3m hi-strength 90 spray adhesive at Lowes.Removed the grab handles over the doors and popped away the plastic molding around the top.Open the sun roof and remove the 4 screws that hold on the bottom.Take the headliner out through the drivers rear door.Remove the old fabric and with a stiff brush clean the surface of old foam then lay out the new fabric on the head liner and fold back as you will only want to do about a foot at a time, spray across the fabric and the head liner and allow to dry just to a tack then stretch down the new fabric. Can be reinstalled right when you are done. There are some posts that include photos on the net, check them out.
Good luck
Bill

Hi deerebill
If you have the website addresses for the posts on the net that include photos of replacing the headliner, please provide the links to them here in this thread.

I would like to see the photos and I am sure other members would also be interested in seeing them.

I had a rotten headliner until recently, but with a price of $299.99 for it re-upholsterered and reinstalled, I thought it was cheaper to use the shop than 'DIY'. The shop that did this was "All Jaguar" in N. Orlando.
