1999 XJ8 speaker wiring
My Jag does not have the big speaker in the back window. No speaker means standard in-car entertainment system to me. Updating the radio should not involve wiring around the amplifier since the 2001 diagram shows no amplifier, (http://jagrepair.com/images/AutoRepairPhotos/jagxj2001.pdf) on pages 127-129 just direct wiring to the speakers in the standard configuration shown in the diagram.
Splicing into the proper colored wires at the dashboard should allow single DIN radios with new features like GPS, Bluetooth, Aux, etc. to be installed.
I'd like to find a mating connector for the speaker harness if anyone know of one or I could break into a salvage stock radio and cut out the connector.
Fabricating a bezel is another story. A YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DuMKEUv1iNs)
shows a double DIN bezel made by a Audio Designs in Hawthorne, CA, but I can't get any answer on that phone.
Any suggestions on putting a pretty face on this project?
I welcome comments on this upgrade idea.

I saved the console from my Jag to use for the custom interior of my Chevelle. I like the way the arch over the radio is shaped into the dash and plan to mimic this in the Chevrolet.
I have the sloped wood trim piece removed and am tracing it onto a piece of poster board. I will then use this as a stencil to cut a sheet metal panel to fill the console back in with head unit, fuel/nitrous controls, and aux gauges.
I considered using the Jag trim, and saw some head unit adapter kits online that looked nice, but I do not need the AC/valet controls. Since a filler panel needs to be made for my application anyway, I decided to fill out the whole unit. Plus, I can sell the wood to someone who needs it.

The factory electrical diagram will list the type of electrical connector used for each connector - you can find the type from the audio system diagram, find its mate and see if there's premade harnesses for that type.
The oem Jag head unit is a single din unit with a 1.5size face that slides into the housing - so you can take the head unit out of its mount and stick a single din unit in, and fab something up to take up the empty space.
I took a look in the 99 MY electrical guide and the connector listed for the head unit main connection is: IC10 / 20-WAY MULTILOCK 070 / WHITE so it's just a matter of finding a connector that works with that, if it is available.
EDIT: something like this maybe http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/...252bN5eFMmuTQQ and then just build up the harness. I'd imagine if you're at the junkyard you're not going to find the appropriate mate harness for the head unit, unless there's another place in the car that a 20way multilock 070 is used, then you can repurpose that into a reverse harness for your aftermarket head unit.

Did you check the spec sheet - for forum reference.

Disclaimer, not sure that is the right part without comparing against the back of the head unit, or correct gender, and it may not come with pins so you may need to build the harness (not hard, just takes some time). Will be good to know though since i have a similar project planned for the future.

Ordered the SiriusXM tuner for this as well. Hope to video the install of all of this by Jake the Geek Squad guy.

GPS screen hits the gear shifter, sent Jensen back to Crutchfield. Getting a Pioneer single DIN without GPS or backup camera.
Pioneer instruction warn against direct connection to power antenna (max 300ma 12VDC).
QUESTION:
from the 1999 wiring diagram, I can't tell if there is a relay before the antenna motor
Any comments from you vets?

Not sure the wire, but yes, the antenna output just triggers the motor in the antenna to do it's thing. Surprised the in-dash was hitting the gear shift, but it doesn't surprise me in some instances. Sometimes you can get a little more angle in the installation to clear, but what I used to do in a car that I had that issue, was to disable the auto-open, and only manually open it after I've shifted out of park. It worked for me, but obviously won't be ideal for everyone. I also remember seeing someone with a shorter shift knob that allowed for clearance too (don't remember if it was just the knob, or if they cut the shifter down too?)
