1999 XJ8 VP Engine Swap??
Hello,
I need to know if it's going to be simpler to swap out a 100% 2000 XJS engine on my Jaguar or do this list of work to her. (Note I am not a mechanic)
List:
I'll need to buy all 4 timing chain tensioners and guides, but the chains themselves are ok.
The heads need to be replaced tested and some of the valves replaced. Maybe 2-4 valves per head.
I have some fuel injectors which need to be refurbished- filters, o rings etc which I have in hand.
Replace the air intake plenum, valve covers, coolant lines and breather hoses.
Thanks,
James Marquette

I can cobble some info from your post???
I am guessing you have a 1999 Jaguar VDP with a 4.0 AJ27 engine.
Is your engine disassembled???
Why do you need new valves??
I see that you stated that the chains are ALL OK. Can't you just replace the tensioners and go on with your life?
Did the engine overheat??
ANY 4.0 AJ27 Normally Aspirated engine from X308/X100 will bolt into your car without modification (1999-2003 X308 or 1999-2002 X100).
A brief description of your problems might yield a more specific answer.
Some people OVER REPAIR cars and spend money (or charge money) they don't need to.

If you are not a mechanic then run away!
You are WAY over your head. The cost will be so far above what the car is worth just buy another Jaguar. Get one with the 4.2L engine so you can leave all this crap behind. Just no need to mess with the old 4.0L engines.
If you do any tensioner work replace ALL the chains as well.
