1999 XJR Oil Change Help
I usually take my 1999 XJR to the shop to get the oil changed but after the prices have been going up (50 then 60, now 70 dollars). I will admit, I have no idea where the oil drain plug is on this car. Looking under the car from the passenger side, there is a small black "plug looking" bolt right next to the Oil Filter. I was tempted to try that one but, I have seen people drain their transmission fluid and other fluids attempting to get to the oil plug. Can someone please point me in the right direction? Thanks.
Can you take a picture of what you're referring to? I changed the oil on my car (also a 99 XJR) and saw only one bolt there. It points slightly forwards, and it's pretty close to the oil filter, so if that's the one you're referring to, chances are that's it.
What you are referring to is the bolt which simply holds in place the small air deflector. Taking it out and removing the air deflector gives access to the oil filter. The oil drain plug is just towards the center of the car from the deflector bolt, same size, at the corner of the oil pan.
Transmission drain plug is way farther back on the car.
Don't forget to clean the part load breather (by running a 7/64 drill bit back and forth with your fingers in the aperture - be careful not to drop it inside the engine !!!) every time you change the oil and filter.
Cheers!
