Default 2000 XJ8 Engine Swap-Is any 4.0 swapable?

Hi All,

I am considering doing an engine swap on my 2000 XJ8. I am trying to source an engine from a salvage vehicle that suffered extensive rear or side damage but where the engine is OK.

Are there only a limited number of "wrecked" XJ8's available.

anyone know if there are other Jaguar models whose engine would be "plug & play" to fit in my 2000 XJ8.

I want to be able to expand my search as wide a possible.

Thanks!!!

An XK8 of the same vintage. It depends on the original if it's AJ26 or AJ27, I think it'll be a 27. Do the VVT connectors come out of the top or thru the timing cover?

I am seeing a number of XJ8 Vanden Plas (for example) with lower miles but the engine is listed as 4.0L. will that engine work in my 2000 XJ8?

I am just trying to search the largest available number of options to find the best engine with lowest miles. & for an easy swap.

Thanks!

yep that'll fit, but what is it, 26 or 27, for ease if fitting you need a low miles 27, the later the better, like 02/3....no timing rebuild for example, or cam swaps, or flex plate swaps, or.....

Stay away from the early 4.0s and the cylinder wash issue.
