You will find that the trunk lights are the same as the door puddle lights,
they are on a time sequence and will self extinguish after a period if you have your doors or trunk lid open for an extended period ;o)

My leather surround was loose as well, just re-glued it.

Just be a bit careful re-installing, better first install the carpet without the side pins, then click the light units in while having a hand behind the carpet to give some back pressure to the leather.
Yes my leather base was found loose further down the wiring. Now I have basic schematics in my mind, I can figure it out.

Thanks sir.

After wasting time and money acquiring and replacing several failed OEM boot/trunk light micro switches, I have used a mercury switch alternative. MS's are available from any electrical component store for a fraction of the cost & are easily installed without trunk latch removal. Simply unclip the boot lid lining and splice the 2 mercury switch wires into the 2 boot light switch wires (polarity is irrelevant) and affix the mercury switch with double-sided adhesive tape in the appropriate orientation under the boot lid lining. With the car parked on level terrain, ensure that the boot lights go off just before the boot is closed. Note that because the mercury switch is gravity operated it may activate the boot lights if the car is parked in a steep nose-down attitude. If so, the security control module will prevent battery drain, but you will need to use your key to open the boot!
