2000 xj8 vdp quick question about boot aux harness
From what I can gather, the empty harness by the battery is an extra auxiliary plug.
I am wiring an amp for some subwoofers, and need to connect the amp to a power source that comes on with the key. So this seems ideal. What I can’t figure out is how do I connect the amp to this plug.
The amp has a screw connector for the remote on. I’d strip some wire, wind it around the screw, and tighten it... like a 110v house plug.
Which of the three plugs would this wire connect to? I’d guess that a spade connector would be best... but I have no idea if this would connect to the positive or negative... or how to tell which wire is what. I do have a multimeter... but have very little experience with it.
i can not find online neither which wire is which on this plug, nor if the amp remote should be connected to the pos or neg. doubt it would connect to the ground at least.
the instructions that came with the amp was written for someone who knows what they are doing... which I do not.
For which you can find this pdf schematic and scroll to pg 33 and it has the boot diagram and on the next page the ignition power distribution... http://www.jagrepair.com/images/Auto.../jagxj1998.pdf ...along with the rest of the cars layout.
I ran my activation off the back of my head unit, it wasn't that hard, just a little time consuming. If your doing a 3rd party head unit and need fascia trim... https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...-piece-165345/
If I remember right that plug was used for charging the cars' batteries during transport overseas. Not sure how much power it's rated for, or how well it would work for your application.
Grounds go to chassis.
The nice thing with these cars is that the battery's in the back, so adding a power cable is fairly easy.
For the remote connection, you could probably tap the antenna signal wire. For reference, setting the remote wire to +12V turns the amp on, grounding it or leaving it free will leave the amp off.
