Default 2000 XJR no instrument lights

Gentlemen,

I was able to drive my 'new' 2000 XJR for the first time at night this evening and I have no illumination behind any of the gauges. The backlighting behind the clock works however. Adjusting the dimmer knob does dim and brighten the lamps that do light up but the lamps behind the gauges remain off. Any suggestions on how to sort this? I find it hard to believe that all of the lamps behind each gauge are burnt out.

Cheers,
Aaron

Just to let everyone know, I wound up popping the cluster out and changing the bulbs and all is good to go now..

Hard to believe all were burnt out at once...and more so that the PO left it that way!!

I have heard of too many cases of all the bulbs burning out at once for it to be coincidence. I have obvserved this myself after a cluster or battery disconnect. My (unproven) theory is the dimmer controller momentarily surges after a battery disconnect and takes out older, weaker bulbs.
