2000 xjr wont start
So this has been a doozy. A little back story... My car would intermittently not start so I cleaned the famous connection under the hood and even changed the battery. This didn't help at all and eventually just quit starting. The next thing I tried was leaving key in position 2 and tried to jump the starter yay the engine cranks but then no start. I'm kind of stuck at this point so I take the ok girl in. They originally think its the key transponder they change it with another. But now the signal is lost at the ECM. this sucks because evidently they are not easy to find. Has anyone else seen this.
Welcome to the Jaguar Forums.
Do you have a generic code reader to see if any the DTC (diagnostic trouble codes) have been triggered?
Being armed with whatever DTC codes that are found will give possible clues about what may be causing the no start and you post them here in this thread. Then other forum members will be able to assist you with information on how to fix it.
Look at the posts in this other "no start" thread:
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...problem-77472/
It gives suggestions on cylinder wash and cleaning MAF (mass air flow sensor), Throttle Body, Part-Load Breather Tube orifice.

It sounds like it maybe that your car has been immobilized and needs to be reset by a Jaguar dealer or use of WDS program.
Here is a weblink to the thread of 99 XJ8 with same issue that was caused by the immobilization:
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...o-spark-71752/
Look at the post# 81 - problem solved,
The cause of the no-start condition was......
"Immobilization" and was corrected by "Immobilization Reset"
So, indeed, the immobilization system (no injector pulse, no spark) can be a separately triggered event (with no codes) independent of the security system (no starter, fuel, or spark).
Also look at post# 88 -
Unfortunately no direct information of what had caused the immobilization to be set and the Jaguar tech is very hard to reach. In my opinion, it could have been a number of factors, particularly the poking and prodding of the car's electrical system prior to my ownership, battery dead for an unknown amount of time, or other issues related to the car sitting around.
I found another article on 'just answers' website - 99 XJ8
"I had my 99 XJ8 towed to the Jaguar dealer. They performed an immobilization reset, and the car started right up!"
"I also had another ECM (same part #) that I swapped. I just swapped it again, same result. This would point even further to the immobilization that may need to be done.
In my past experience (with my 98 XK8) I had to have the key re-programmed, but when that issued happened, I was not able to engage the starter, just the guages and basic electronics."

Had the same problem six months ago. Car would not start with one of the keys; would, fortunately with the other set. Took it to my specialist who had to reprogram both keys. But same signs: all lights came up, no start.
Tuesday I need to call the The Jag Shop. Originally they were not getting a response from the key now they do supposedly. I am a little nervous since they are essentially just switching every module out. They have said that's what the troubleshooting books tell them to do.
Switching modules is fine when the car is under warrant, but the cost could easily exceed the price of another car, unless they are just swapping with used modules to identify the problem area and will put the originals back in.
