Hi, I purchased an 01 Vanden Plas. The shifter has difficulty finding the gears. I saw a few videos about a sensor in the shifter that fails. But that was in a S class. So I wanted to know what my options are to repair this. On that model the person replaced the top of the shifter where the sensor was located. I don't know if I can do that with my model. Do I have to replace the whole shifter assembly? It won't start in park. Only Neutral. It has a hard time funding drive but usually I can get it in drive.

What do you mean it has trouble finding gears? You mean you move the shifter to D and its not always going into Drive? Like its still in neutral or something? Might just be a stretched cable.
