Default Park/Neutral Shifter Problem

1992 Jaguar Vanden Plas.

Engine won't crank with shifter in Park. If I move it slightly, then it cranks. Neutral works fine.

Does anyone have experience with adjusting the start prevention switch? Is this an under-the car (transmission) adjustment, or at the shifter?

Thanks.

It is inside the car.

Remove the console top slope thingy, and on the R/H side of the shifter mechanism is a switch pack, and that is the sucker you have to deal with. I would remove it, 2 screws, a tad fiddly, and give it a good clean with contact clean, then refit and reset so as it does what it should before putting the timber back.

They can fail, but that is quite rare, as a good clean has always got them working again for me. Just did the X300 (same) and although it was working fine, the amount of crud I flushed out of it was scary.
