2001 XJ8 4.0L automatic transmission replacement
So I'm looking for a transmission for the 01 xj8 but I can't seem to find any information on the exact model zf5hp24 that I'll need any suggestions, as far as the catalog is concerned they stopped making them for the xj8 in 1999? the car is still on a hill and I have no way of seeing what the serial is for myself. In short can the 1058-015 (XK8 tranny)be used in an xj8 or will I require a 1058-27 or 1058-26?
I semi-recently paid $2200 for a complete rebuild w/ warranty from a indy shop in NC.

$2900 seems like a good price. You might also call Price's Transmission in Virginia Beach. Their prices have been in line with what AAMCO charges here in Tidewater. Cheaper tow than to New Bern (but a night or two in New Bern is fun, too -- great restaurant town -- not so sure after all the flooding a while back).
Nice to see you are getting around to fixing this.

Update: the AAMCO receptionist says that labor alone is $800.00 , so theres the options of splitting the repair up; however if I go through with the original plan there's the lovely warranty. speaking of warranties are extended warranties through companies like carshield a bad idea for this car? I mean save for the transmission there aren't many parts left that can fail; the previous owner said that this engine doesn't have any nikasil. as a side note she's still equipped with the oem 16 inch wheels.
Want an idea of rebuilding one of these and the hours involved, this isn't your basic Ford C6, Chevy 700R4 or Dodge Torqueflite....
So in perspective, I'd say make sure whomever is doing this trans rebuild, make sure they know their ****!
Don't bug when and where it starts, he comes back at the 5 minute mark and starts from the bellhousing.

But just about everybody who rebuilds transmissions can do the basic ZF A-drum repair. Found in lots of cars, including most BMWs. And if AAMCO is warrantying the work, you have a good deal. Down the street from me, the local AAMCO guys have more Mercedes in their parking lot than any other cars (of course, they are next door to the MB dealer who used to also sell Olds and Land Rovers, each with known tranny issues or abuse).
The biggest issue with these cars is that many of the parts -- particularly plastic parts -- are no longer available from suppliers. So you find yourself running a phone check against a lot of the known dealers and suppliers to see what they have drawing dust on the back shelves. The dealer in Las Vegas is still good. Most of the regular suppliers can meet needs like engine mounts and electrical fittings. This is where the forum proves invaluable -- need a part, ask where can I find it and you frequently find a response within minutes. Some of the Brit houses are still good but shipping costs.
Keep us informed on what you are going to do with the transmission. Rebuilding makes far more sense than picking up a used unit which may or may not be good. Again, up Rt 1 near Fredericksburg, there are yards that have them.

So here's a minor update.
I thought the trans was completely gone, i've been able to get her to go into 1st,2nd,3rd,4th, and 5th with some issues. I've noticed that engagement is taking about 1-5 seconds. I'm shipping her off today, for a full point inspection. Heres hoping its just fluid and a valve.

Yeah: the further west of I95 the worse it gets (or better, depending on your point of view). As long as the flatbed driver wasn't carrying a gun, you could just no. If you think Jags have problems, the Minis are worse.
So, who did you finally decide on to do the work?

So the plot thickens , the vin revealed that this x308 is on its third transmission (it was installed in 2015, and the second trans was installed in 2010; I feel sorry for the original owner), so hopefully the a clutch was replaced at the same time; also to add she was a two owner car before my dad gave her to me.
I'm taking a gamble here, but she's currently in a shop waiting for a fluid transfusion and a new filter to be installed. Had to have a third party tow her there though.

So I'm in a scenario where this downed XJ is the only "functional" car I have access to, would it be remotely possible to ride around using only fourth and reverse or would this just result in a tow. I only need it to hit a top speed of 35mph.
