Default 2001 XJR Brake Light Problem

Hello Members:

Getting a Check Brake Light signal on the dash of my 2001 XJR. Both Rear Brake Lights went out at the same time however the Brake Light on the Rear Deck still works. I'm not certain if the switch on the Brake Pedal controls all 3 lights and I don't want to change the switch if it is not necessary. Any help would be appreciated.

The rear brake lights signal run through the security locking module located under the trunk fusebox - it sounds like the surface mounted diodes that control them have burnt out, a fairly common problem. There's a member on here that ID'd them and offered to replace them if you send him the module. Have a search and you'll find the thread.

Hope that helps

Really appreciate the response. I kind of thought it may be the module.

I had the same issue on my 2002 XJR not long ago. I ended up doing a quick fix and running the tail lights off the 3rd brake light/trailer relay. I do still get the “check brake lights” or similar warning when the pedal is depressed, but the lights all work.

O.k. I changed the security module and the left side still does not come on. Of course I changed the bulb too. I temporarily wired the left side to the right side so they both light when the brake pedal is depressed. The "check brake light" message still comes on every time the pedal is depressed and being OCD it drive me crazy. Is it possible the switch on the brake pedal is bad? I would guess that it is a simple on/off switch but could be wrong. Any ideas?
