I m thinking about purchasing this Jaguar but the seller does not if the engine has plastic tensioners or not. All I have is the VIN number. How can I be sure without opening the engine? SAJDA25B32MF45078
Thanks, Terry
The updated tensioners were supposed to be fitted from Aug 31st 2001.
Your year/month of manufacture is on the information plate on the driver's door.
Your engine number can be found on the left-hand side of the engine block and is visible through the front left wheel arch. The engine number gives the exact moment of manufacture. e.g. 0205150230 would be 02(year)05(month)15 (day)0230 (time) So that example would be : 2002 May 15th 2:30am.
Terry,
You must use the engine manufacture date, NOT the car's date off the line. My 2002 XKR was built in October, but had an April 2001 engine with the older tensioners, which I replaced.
