Would a 2003 XJ8 (VIN SAJDA14C63LF58712) have the metal secondary chain tensioners as original from the factory or would this car need to be checked?

You should have the newer metal body tensioners as well as the silent running pimary chains.

I haven't found a definitive answer to your question, and I've looked -- maybe someone has something official from jaguar that would answer this question once and for all.

I do, however, believe that bob is correct :-)

 

He is, any car manufactured after mid August 2001 will have the AJ27S spec engine, this has all metal timing equipment and later oil pump along with morse silent primary chains.

I've just noticed yours is an O3 Mike, what month was it manufactured in 2002?

 

My driver's door label is almost worn off, but with a flashlight at the right angle I can see (I think) 05/02 for the mfg date.

ENGINES manufactured after August 2001 will have later spec timing components!!!!!

A car on the assembly line might get whatever engine is next in line.

Also a car in warranty could get a reman engine with updated parts!!
