Default 5th to 4th downshift not so smooth

'00 XJ8 VDP

Transmission is starting to get weird - no gearbox fault or transmission codes according to Jag shop.

'sometimes' - shifting to reverse seems to dim the headlights and lower power.
'sometimes' - shifting to drive from reverse almost makes the whole car want to lunge forward.
'often' - downshift from 5th to 4th - you can definitely feel it.

Anyone deal with the same thing? How long did you have before replacing it?
I'm in love with the VDP - and will likely eat the $$$ to have it fixed.

Also, had a transmission flush about a month ago.

Did you disconnect the battery recently? Mine went through a phase like this, while it seemed to be re-learning, after the battery died, and I had to replace it.

Suggest seeing how it goes.

Yes I had it disconnected recently - the battery is due for replacement (right @ 5 year mark).

Just give it time then?

Yes, mine seemed to take a week or two to adjust.
