'89 XJ8 - Transmission Coolant Line Leak
Hi Guys-
a few weeks ago, I noticed small spots on the ground of what I believe is trans fluid.
The spots are under the air filter box.
It looks like one of the trans cool lines goes along the frame rail there and it looks soaked.
I don't want to drive it any more until I get this fixed. I have no way of knowing how much has leaked.
I can't tell if the problem is a hole in the line or if there is a leak at a fitting.
If I go the route of changing out the entire line is it possible to use a flexible hose and put fittings on it to match?
I've looked at what is involved in adding trans fluid and while it's a bit annoying, it doesn't look to difficult.
-Thanks

I wasn't sure what was there on the right side, so I looked at my parts car. Both transmission cooler lines are on the left side. The only line there that can leak fluid there is the power steering cooler line. More than likely it is the line I have circled in red.
The first picture shows it in my parts car. Don't know for sure but it looks like that hose is part of the cooler.

@ BobRoy- I believe you are correct The line you circled in red is what's soaked. And that is from where it looks like it's leaking.
I'll have to check to see if it is that piece or the line that connects to it (MNE3999AA return line or if it's the cooler itself MJA8084AB.)
It puts my mind at easy that it is not the transmission lines leaking.
The car has 172000 miles on it so sometime in the near future I expect that will need to be done, but not today. ;op

I had the same issue, the transmission coolant line was fouling on something (I can't now remember what), but it was a simple replacement. Or it would of been if I hadn't had to source a replacement radiator because the connection refused to budge and then of course there was the fun of refilling the gearbox.
