1998 XJ8 Transmission cooler line leak
I need to repair damage to the lower transmission cooler line on my 98 XJ8.
Research on this forum suggests that the transmission lines cannot be removed without lowering the steering rack - at a minimum. Can anyone who has done this job confirm that this is correct? What about the option of cutting and removing the old line, and replacing it with a fabricated high pressure flexible line? Thanks for any insights.

I have repaired a trans cooler line that had a spot rubbed/chaffed from a PAS hose. I cleaned the area with solvent and cut a piece of rubber fuel line and split it so it would fit over the leak. I applied some RTV oil pan sealant and clamped it in place.
No more leak!!!!!!
It may work for you?? It depends on how large the hole is, if you can clean the area properly and the quality of the repair.
There is not much pressure in the line to/from the cooler.
You might even get an in-line filter kit to splice in that spot to serve as a repair and additional filter.
