Has anyone had a problem after doing timing chains. That the
VVT keeps setting codes. Its has been a p1396. Which is bank
b, the driver side.
I have taken the car apart three times now, to recheck my
work, look for clogs, dirt anything that could be wrong. I
have OHM the wires out they are good .01ohms. I have checked
the actuators they both work, when you take 9v to both vvt
actuators the engine changes, different idle and vacuum
changes. I have swapped the wires off the ECM. same code. I
have checked power to actuators by back probing, idle 0v at
wot 12v.I got the same code p1396. I have replaced the driver
side intake cam gear, and cam position sensor. Still same
code.
Is there anything else that sounds like a possible cause? Is
there a problem with these? I have checked all over not to
many seem to be having a problem. Any help would be great.
Thanks in advance. If more info is needed please let me know.

You will need ot go to Alldata.com for the test sequence for this code on the VVT actuators. There are too many things to type and it cannot be copied due to copyright. It is possiblean actuator coil is bad or a connector is not making contact, you can testthem easily.
You must have missed tests C2 and C4, the coil resistance test and check on EMS1 relay. You also missed test C9 for testing for debris in the oilpassageway. The problem is very likely one of these. Be sure to read the test sequences thoroughly.
