Default 98 xj8 v8 4.0 Oil sender location

Searched through the treads for location of the oil sender for this engine with no luck.

oil, pressure light comes on on hot day at idle when a/c is on . Goes out when put in neutral or as engine is revved.

Probably sender?
Looking for the location of sender to switch out new unit ordered.

Thanks for help

right around the oil filter and housing. It screws into the housing. As long as yours is not supercharged then it will be the only one there. Supercharged use an oil temperature sensor right there as well.

Hi
Here are 2 diagrams from the Jaguar Electronic Parts Catalog I captured showing the Oil Pressure Switch (PDF file download):

XJ 98-03 Oil Pressure Switch.pdf

The next 3 Photos show the location of the Engine Oil Filter and Engine Oil Pan Drain Plug:

Here is photo of the engine oil drain plug and oil filter located next to the passenger side front wheel (2001 XJ8) taken from under the car - the oil filter has red lettering on it (Bosch) you can see o and the s:

Here is top view photos - first one is the alternator and the oil filter taken from the top of the engine compartment near the middle of the valve (cam) cover - the oil filter is just below the alternator

Second one shows part of the engine valve cover and the alternator (I have a flashlight shining on the alternator from below it).

Based on your description, it is more likely to be that you need a heavier weight oil. Your oil pressure is dropping at the depressed idle when your A/C is on and the engine is loaded by the transmission. Your sender is just reporting the truth.
