Replaced battery in jag everything thing works but the security system and stuck in park. also the red light is on in the speedometer in the dash no codes. does the security system not coming on have anything to do with car stuck in park??? how do I get car in neutral??? can anyone help please

Is the battery fully charged?

 

I am not sure, but I think the torx fastener by the shift lever allows going into neutral.
Check the owners manual.

 

Yes the plastic blanking plug can be removed with a T30 Torx and the ignition key inserted to release the selector lever from PARK.

Move the lever to NEUTRAL, pull the key from the hole and start the engine. Do not put it in park until you are done driving or go through the release procedure again.

Think I'll go loosen mine in case of a rainy day

 

I loosened both of my XJ8s selector lever release blanking plugs so that I could use a flat blade screw driver or maybe even my finger in case I needed to.

I hate to press my thumb on them and they just tear the skin up and leave a red mark.

When I worked at the Jag dealer we used to get cars from used car dealers that came from the auctions. The batteries would go dead and lock the selectors in PARK.

The car jockeys at the auctions learned to just yank the levers FAST AND HARD to break the plastic selector housing to release the gearbox so they could push the car out into the open. I guess they did not carry a TORX 30 to remove the plug.

I got pretty good at replacing the plastic housings and bent levers.
