99 jag XJR battery drain

Cool 99 jag XJR battery drain

new battery.when running metor shows 12.40 at the highest.new starter.battery charged two days ago.checked today before start.12.13 v after start would only go up to 12.40 v.im not sure but i would think it should go higher. thanks for any help

So after the vehicle starts, the voltage never goes about 12.4? If that is the case, that alternator is either not charging, or the voltage is dropping off before the battery. Check the charging at the terminal on the back of the alternator. If the voltage there is only 12.4 volts, the alternator is bad. If it is 14-15v, you have to find where you are losing the voltage.
