99 VDP fuel pump
I know that there are some threads on fuel pumps but I could not locate one that dealt with my issue directly.
I am in the process of removing the trans from a 99 VDP and had to get the car running to get it into my garage. Back in January, I tried and it just wouldn't go. Finally, last week, I got back to it and determined the fuel pump had failed. I got a uroparts pump from my parts buddy along with the filter sock. I removed the tank and opened it up to find a severely burned fuel pump connector. I asked my buddy (owner of the car) what he did in the past (a fellow former Jag tech who knows better) and he says one of the other fellas we worked with gave him a used pump
. So after he saw my face, I said, well I gotta find a harness/link lead. He called a guy that he knows who breaks apart jags and left a message. (never heard back) I checked the local Autozone, Advance, and Pep boys to no avail. (I already knew the answer from those three) Packed up and headed home.
The next day I called my parts buddy. I said I needed a fuel pump link lead. He said he'd look around. I did some research on my own. I have a downloaded copy of the EPC so I kept looking and looking. There is nothing in the X308 section for the link lead. I checked in the X100 and holla! There it was. I verified on eBay the correct part and connectors and had my parts buddy order it up. Holy crap is that sucker expensive for being two connectors and some wire! I received it and made sure it fit the pump. I was hoping it was long enough for the XJ as the XK tank has a slope on the top. Finally, I get back to the car and sure as the sun comes up, the harness fit! It was long enough. I got the tank back in, and proceeded to fire it up. It took about 30 minutes of cranking, stopping, cranking, stopping, etc. It finally caught and ran. Smoked up the whole street! (I heard the fire siren not long after I smoked it up!) It is a nikasil engine and compression isn't what it should be but the damn thing ran! It hadn't done that since April 2013! That makes me happy.
Short of it is, those of you who want to use the OE style pump and need a harness CAN use the one for the X100 XK8's.
I am proud to keep another Jaguar on the road!

Rob, I was actually going through your X5 Trans rebuild earlier today. I am on the fence about doing this one myself or just getting a rebuild from ericksson in CT. It's cheap enough for me at the wholesale price. Once I get it out, I'll talk with the owner of the car and find out the next course of action.
Your write-up was incredible!
As far as the tank removal process, I usually take the rubber gaiter out with the tank. I remove the fuel door lock (8mm nuts x2) and the five nuts holding the gaiter to the body (they are vertical) Another thing I noticed was the different emmisions equipment your car has. We have three rubber hoses on the tank flange/hat. PITA do move them around to get the flange off! I think some of our cars have that goofy udder looking thing on the side of the tank, but only certain years.
I've had so many of those tanks out over the years!

Thanks Mark. I did try to get the rubber out, but it wouldn't budge, so I left it alone! So much is trial and error, and yes, I've seen different evap flanges in other posts. I was glad to see mine was so simple.
You can forget the link lead entirely if you can splice the existing harness stubs.
The plastic bit in the middle is just a suppression network according to the Walbro(OEM) patent filing.
If you are using a Denso pump, suppression is built into the pump and they own the patent on that.

Here is a pic of what I was dealing with. The connector melted inside the old pump and left me with burned pins. The new pump has the OE style connector. I believe the airtex pump comes with new wiring. I didn't have this option.
