Default 99 XJ8 fuel pump help

I have a customer who put his own fuel pump in. He used a after factory setup. Now it keeps blowing the hose off of the tube inside of tank. I felt the tube and it has a slight lip, as if there should be a quick coupler there, he is using hose clamps to secure the hose to the line. I have tried several designed connectors, and they will not stay on the line. The tank looks like an after factory tank also. Have any of you all had this problem? If so, How did you remedy it ? Thanks: Autotec40.

It's better to ask first than do it twice.

I would be worried that the fuel pressure at the pump is too high. The fuel filter could be CLOGGED?? The person changing the pump might have 'DRAGGED' the tank out without disconnecting the lines from the bottom of the tank and kinked them closed????

The line should only see about 40 PSI MAX.

More diagnosis??

Hi autotec40,

The concerns Bob mentions are very likely issues if the owner didn't do the job properly. If you rule out those problems, some owners have solved the problem of the hose blowing off the pump by using two hose clamps if the pump outlet is long enough, or a hose clamp secured by wire or a wire tie. See aholbro1's solution in this thread:

Cheers,

Don

OK. Got the tank out. The hose had blown off at the pump this time, so my double clamping at the tank outlet tube was good an tight. I am going to use mechanics wire to secure the hose to the bump as shown in Hyperlink in Don B. post.
I had already made sure the fuel pressure was within spec's, but intend to recheck after the repair is done just to make sure. I will reply later today to let you all know. Thanks again: Autotec40

Don B. Do you have any idea how the hose originally connected to the outlet tube? It looks like a quick disconnect fitting, but I can not find anything that will stay connected to the tube. Are they nylon press on tubing?

Think it's hose clamped on. Check the other tank options to be sure, but here's where I looked:

+1 on a worm-drive hose clamp or "Jubiliee clip" in British terminology.

Cheers,

Don
