Default 99 XJR can't get out of park

Hi, I am new on here but have used these forums before and found them to be super helpful. I know there have been at least one previous thread on an XJR that won't shift out of park. I found that when this problem occurred in my vehicle I was thinking brake switch as well but also had no map lights, no power to steering wheel, exterior mirrors, and I am wondering if this is more electrical, ie; fuse or wiring related, before I swap out the brake switch. Any thoughts would helpful.

Thank you

Welcome to the forum nronald1,

To get over the immediate issue of not being able to shift out of Park, use the Manual Override procedure (see section boxed in red):

Although it could be a failed Interlock Solenoid causing this specific issue, the fault list suggests there's more to it.

When you get a minute, please follow this link New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the New Member Area - Intro a MUST forum and post some info about yourself and your vehicle for all members to see. In return you'll get a proper welcome and some useful advice about posting to the forum.

Default Thanks

Thank you, and I took care of the new member intro as requested. I am about to see if I can fix her.

Default Fuse

GGG,

Thanks again for the info. Just passing along some info that it was the #7 fuse (Left heelboard), 15 amp which controls multiple functions such as processors and relays thus knocking out so many functions. In the event anyone has any similar problems in the future and I miss it. Thank you again for the heads up on other potential problem areas.

Ron

Do the rear brake lights work? It could be a bad brake light switch? I experienced this a lot on Ford vehicles, but not sure about Jaguars they're fairly new to me.

im in the process of replacing the alternator...it's sucking voltage from the NEW battery.

I had this same problem. Make sure your brake lights work. I had a broken wire on the brake switch. A bad brake switch will do the same thing.
