only way to really know is to first have a "Qualified" tech preferrebly a"Jag" tech to look the car over for you first
and if your serious about buying it im sure the place thats selling it to you wouldnt mind paying for the inspection before you purchase
personally i"d go with the 99 model with less miles
but whatever you do make sure you have it inspected first
and find someone that knows these cars
independant british car repair or preferrebly jag dealership
best of luck

Based on my experience & much research, I would recommend a 2002 0r later to avoid having the cam tensioners replaced with metal ones. I have the 4 liter 5 speed automatic, and am pleased with it's perf0rmance & 24 mpg on Interstate @ 76 mph.

buddy, 2002 was the last year of X308 production..but of course it is preferred.

I would go with post 2000 model with AJ27 and I always and only prefer XJR over XJ8

How are these dead posts being reanimated? It can be rather frustrating!
