Default Anybody find a source yet for the 3rd world quality door open switch?

Took my d. side door apart today and pulled the switch for cleaning. It didn't do a thing to fix it. I don't want to waste my time on the two others which aren't working unless I have some replacements. Sure wish Jaguar would stop trying to reinvent the wheel. That's what I like about the TVR. They don't try to fix common auto tech that works just fine.

Can you not just swap the switches to something different? Or is there complicated miles of wiring with the switch?
I have updated the door switches on my 71 Triumph Herald to those off a 1998 Ford Escort, as I know they will work properly forever!

Nothing complicated with the wiring, just two wires, tough thing is finding the right size to fit in there as the latch area is a tight fit. I know Jaguar didn't make 'em, absolutely no info on 'em at all.

I've never noticed where the switches are on the XJ actually, are they in the latch itself? If this is the case is it not possible to relocate the switch into another location if a suitable switch is found?
I agree with the "3rd world quality" part though, there are a number of things on these cars you wouldn't expect from such a prestigious car company.

You can easily see the switch's armature pivot by looking into the door's latch recess (shiny bit of metal). With no luck, I attempted to "exercise" the switch with various tools and lubricants. While doing this I managed to unhook the pivot a bit (yes!), but the real problem is with the plunger that the armature actuates. So no progress yet...

The sad thing is they probibly cost $20 for 50 of 'em. If we can find a suitable replacement.

There is a electronics supply house here in town that seems to have everything. If I had the dimensions of the switch housing (or reference numbers) I can drop by to see if they have a suitable match.

On a side note, on my only good door, when it opens, you can hear an audible click of the switch opening.

Ditto, I'll try to get you a pic tomorrow.

The switch is a subminiature micro switch “Burgess V4NCSE”.

Follow the link below and download the pdf file for V4NC switches

More than likely the spring will need to be removed and reinstalled in the new switch.

These are sealed switches and if they fail need to be replaced. In my case corrosion was the culprit and I ended up taking one from the rear door.

However if I need to replace another switch I will not go into the trouble of finding the correct switch and then taking out the latch. I will simply cut of the wires going to the switch (green and black) and install a regular push switch somewhere on the door in the old fashioned way.

I visited the electronics supply house with a diagram of the switch and found this. Since I have yet to disassemble a door latch and see an actual switch by itself, it was a shot in the dark attempt. Who knows? I might have gotten lucky. It cost ~$8.
