Default Backup Sensors

Hi All,

Well I have found out that one of my backup sensors has failed on me - I have read all the articles and placed the car in reverse with the handbrake on and listened for the clicks - only one doesnt click. I have a replacement in the mail but was wondering if these things are hard to replace? Will I need to take the bumper off to get at the wiring? Do these things just slot into the hole on the bumper or are they fastened in.

Any ideas?

Cheers

You can actually reach them by lying on the floor and looking up and under the bumper without jacking up the car or removing the bumper. Depending on which one you're replacing you can remove the marker light to allow some visual without lying down. They are actually pushed into the bumper and by squeezing the insides and pushing out they come out and unplug. You may have to remove some factory tape, which its best to replace. Hope this helps. S.

Did that fix it? Where did you get the replacement from?

Hi Steve!

It's been a while since your post, but I wondered if you ever replaced the sensor and how did it go? Easy? Hassle? Did it fix the problem? Did you need to jack up the car?

Looks like I might need to replace one of mine.

Thanks!

Default 2 types of sensors for 2001 XJ VDP?

Would someone please confirm whether there is (or is not) more than 1 kind of sensor? I listened for the clicks, and the one NOT clicking is on the bumper, of course, but on the RIGHT side of the car, as opposed to the back, facing the driver behind me.

The JPEC shows only 1: XR86401 but on some sites I've read that some are 90 degree angle or some such thing. Perhaps a different model Jag?

Anyone know?

Thank you!

Just out of curiousity, I've had my Jag for a year and never noticed backup sensors, were these a feature not included on a 2000 xj8L?

Mine's a 2001 VPD...so I'm not sure, but you can see them easily... just look for 4 round "plugs" on the rear bumper. You wouldn't think twice if you didn't know what they were.
