Bad Valve Cover??

Default Bad Valve Cover??

Gents
I've been trying to track down the smell of burning oil and thought I had it but now my local Indy is telling me my valve cover (not gasket) is bad. I've never heard of this before or had a valve cover fail before. Is this a Jag thing? Any insite is appreciated.

I have resealed these covers over and over and over and.......... The valve covers are made from an extremely fibrous plastic. They warp, and sometimes they even crack, though the cracks are incredibly hard to see. (They only show up under torque) After having to warranty gaskets many times, my shop now ONLY replaces the covers. They are good for about 60-80K miles after replacement. It isn't that uncommon to have to replace the covers. If you bought all of the gaskets, including the isolator bushings on each bolt, it is only about $100 more to replace the whole cover.

so the kit from Jag includes the gasket, etc??

wanna warranty my cover??

The replacement cover comes with all brand new, upgraded seals, gaskets, and isolator bushings, and bolts. The one bolt that is not included, is the one at the top left corner of the valve cover. (The only one that can be removed from the isolator.) It is worth the replacement, the new gaskets are much stiffer than the regular replacements, and last much longer.

I had my passenger side valve cover leaking through one of the brass threaded insert for the coils cover.
A good cleaning and a dab of RTV on the back side solved the problem

I am not sure why but when I went to Full synthetic
Oil, the leak and burning oil smell stopped.

went ahead and replaced the valve cover and didnt notice the smell of burning oil on the way into work. To quote Wheeler Dealers - job done!

those non OEM Eurojunk VC gaskets are notorious leakers. My last set were leaking within 10k miles. I only recommend OEM gaskets and new bolt and spark plug tube seals.

It was the valve cover itself, not the gasket

but. if you use those cheap gaskets with that NEW valve cover, it will leak soon.
