Default Battery or starter

My 1998 VDP does not get driven much so I try to start it as much as possible. I'm on the 2nd new battery bc the battery keeps getting discharged when parked. I either jump it or place a charger on it. Lately I have noticed even after having the charger on the battery I turn the key and nothing, then after a few times it starts. I'm trying to determine whether its the starter or not and maybe the starter is causing the drain on battery. Any ideas here? Was thinking about replacing the starter.

You may have a drain. Either follow threads about finding out or put it on a ctek-type device all the time it's stored.

I keep mine on a NOCO Genius G1100 when not in use.

I give mine (700 Amp) a charge every month or two so it's always fully topped up. It's important to note that due to the limitations of the current that some of them deliver, they are not intended for directly starting a vehicle immediately on their own but instead, you connect them to your vehicle battery for 5 - 10 minutes to charge it up a little before attempting to crank the engine. I've used mine several times using this method and it's always been successful.

ant17,
ive seen similar problems. Firstly, do all the instrument panel lights come on when you turn the key to the ignition on position?

UPDATE: It WAS the starter. There' s a surface in the drive part that wears down. Once worn bad enough the bendix just spins and never engages. Bought a starter on ebay that was in much better shape.
Starter hasn't missed since.
