Default Best way to remove the alternator...?

So i started messing around with the alternator today and the manual calls for removal of the radiator fan, tensioners and a lot of other things. Is it possible to remove it without taking everything apart if I take the oil filter off? I'm going to change the oil anyway.

RBFH?

There was mention somewhere about sneaking it out the bottom after taking the oil filter out. Do not recall if that was for a X308 though.

Remember to give the alternator a few lateral wiggles on the through bolt end to push the spacers back for easier removal and install.

Yep, all you really have to pull is the oil filter.

OK, a little correction for all of those who will be reading this post in the future attempting the same thing.

Even if you remove the oil filter the alternator doesn't come out of the bottom. I removed it and no go.

HOWEVER.... and I think you can get it done with the filter in place(mine was already out), it does come out through the wheel well over the frame rail if you play with it a bit and align it just right. Of course remove the passenger wheel and you will have to pull back the liner a bit.

Also, as far as wiggling it out of the compression bracket, WD-40 or some oil does wonders to free it with a little pry bar.

^^^lol yeah that is right. I had forgotten about that. I have done two of these already. The first one had the liner. My 99 doesnt so it was forgotten about. Either way the RF wheel was pulled. The compression bracket...that's worst part of the whole job, imo. Thanks for the correction!
