Boot Lid misaligned

Boot Lid misaligned
Cheers everyone...
My 99 XJ8 Souvereign has a horizontal gap between the boot lid and the rest of the body-mainly on the left side at the back at the hinge. The trunk itself is dry, so I assume that it is correctly gasketed. Please see picture attached.
This may have happened after putting to much luggage in the small trunk when I stupidly slammed the bootlid.
Is there a simple way to even this gap by adjusting the hinge? I could not find anyting.
Thank you very much in advance, TAG1000

It appears you have bent the U shaped portion of the trunk hinge. You either need to get one from a scrap car, or remove yours and pull it back to shape. The other alternative is to attempt to shim the hing down where it mounts on the car side, but I think taht will give marginal improvement. I did the same stupid thing, and had to R?R the hinge several times till I got it right. I had to heat mine to get it to the right shape, then prime and paint. I am a lot more careful now!

You are probably right! I remember the hinge on the left side seriously grinds into the trunks gasket-and deformed it almost to the body...
Why is there no possibility to adjust the hinge at all ( as well as the bumpers-another tread...)??
This would make things much easier...
I never made it to bend anything on my BMWs trunk! I mean I really love the Jag, but a -mostly- useless trunk plus easy-to-deform hinges??!! This has to be a true Gentlemens car-just storing the golf-bag and maybe some scottish pie in there...
Anyway...I will probably have to live with it...we will see how long
