If you are thinking of a total rebuild you are in for a $hock- The bottom ends are pretty robust.

Top ends gasket set is available through partsgeek I paid around $300 including shipping with a coupon.

do you think that the pistons might have some damage or??
i rebuilt a few vw 1.8t engine and when valves bent there is no damage to pistons because they are forged

You will know as soon as you pull the head(s). More than likely no.

Check that each piston reaches TDC, because if a piston hits a valve it can also cause the con-rod to bend slightly as well as leaving marks on the piston.

This happened to me on an old BMW years ago. I had the head off to replace a couple of bent valves, but noticed that as I rotated the crankshaft to bring each piston to TDC for decoking, that the front piston was not reaching the same height as the others & was down by about a couple of mm-as well as looking like it was not sitting centrally in the bore.

Sure enough, after dropping the sump & removing the piston & rod from the top of the block, the con-rod was bent in a very slight dog-leg pattern.

Agreed- check with a depth gauge after you pull the heads.

Keep us updated- If I do not get my fix of auto repair successes I start looking at Craigslist. If I start looking at Craigslist I find projects. When I find projects I buy them. When I buy projects my wife gets annoyed. Please don't make me make my wife annoyed.
