Default Brembo upgrade wanted

I have been trying to gain info regarding a Brembo brake conversion. I want to upgrade my 2000 VDP S/C to the Brembo package with larger rotors. Now the technical question I have is, is the Brembo caliper mount the difference between the rotor sizes? Also, I have found a number of Brembo/Jaguar calipers on Ebay, but for '04 and up, will they work on a '00?
Lastly, I've done some searching around here regarding this and have found conversions for XK's, but I haven't seen any for XJ's. Is the XK suspension similar to the XJ so I could use those who have posted this conversion?

Any assistance is appreciated, thank you...HH

If you mean Brembo like on my STR then what do you plan to do about the emrgency brake? Also, will your rims clear the larger parts?

If you have ABS will the pressures be suitable?

I think you're trying something more difficult than you realise.

I know the STR has uprated suspension arms etc to cope with the greater braking stresses. Retrofit looks hard and unrewarding.

The Brembo's from the S-Type R and X350 XJR will not fit an X308.

There are shared components betwern the X308 and the X100 XKR though.

I did it years ago on my 01 XJR

I have copied below a post I made on another forum regarding this upgrade. You can only use the Brembo calipers that was designed for an XJ up to 03 and for an XK up to 06 I believe

I just finished upgrading my 01 XJR to the Brembo option and wanted
to share with you the process and cost.

Keep in mind that the Brembo will not fit under the regular ( Penta
or Asteroid ) 18'' wheels and consequently I also had to upgrade to
the silver 18'' Milan wheels

Jaguar say that the Brembo calipers require some special
hubs/knuckle but this is not true.
There are 2 types of Brembo calipers, up to 02 and 03 forward (
same calipers on XJR and XKR), the earlier type ( I got a full set
of 01 Siverstone specs calipers) have a an adaptor/bracket between
the caliper and knuckle but the later type have ears and bolt
directly to the knuckle.

On the rear no modification of the knuckle is required with either
type of calipers but for the front if using the later type, the
mounting holes on the knuckle need to be tapped.
Since I used the earlier type, no modification was needed

Dust shield:
Due to the larger diameter rotors, the Brembo use some specific
shields.
On the front since those shields are on backorder, I decided to run
the car without it( I don't see any problem with that, My Viper
came from the factory without any disk shields)
For the back, due to the amount of time to R&R the shields, I
simply slightly modified them by cutting some of the lip.

Rotors/disk
Jaguar price on them are insane but Eurospare has recentry started
to manufacture both front and rear rotors/disks

Braided brake lines:
Once again Jaguar prices are insane (especially for the XJ) so I
bought a Goodridge kit designed specifically for the Brembo XKR.
The rear was perfect ( XJR and XKR ) must use the same hoses but
the front lines were a little too long.
I just had Goodridge make a front set to my specification

Milan Wheels:
I got a set of refurbished from Coventry West but had a small
issue, they were described as ''refurbished to as new cosmetic
condition'' but when I received them, they all were missing the
stainless trim ring.
I was able to find a souce for them, SB Wheels and Steve the owner
was a great guy to deal with, he sent me instructions and shipped
them from the UK, next day air for a very, very fair price.
When made aware of the issue of the missingt trim rings, Coventry
West was more than fair and paid 1/2 the cost of the trims and
shipping without any problem.
In my book that make them a great company to do business with.

Mounting the trims mean that I had to take the 2 pieces wheels
apart, no big deal but time consuming due to the number of bolts.

Cost:

4 Jaguar Silverstone/Brembo calipers : $600 including shipping and
pads
Braided brake lines :$150
4 Rotors/disks; $450
Milan wheels and new trim rings: $1,900

Total cost: $3,100

Beside the visual impact, the 2 mains benefit of the Brembo brakes
are a lot les soft/spongy brake pedal (the braided lines are
certainly partly responsible for it) and a a fade-free braking in
all type of driving.

Parking brake is a non-issue on those type of Jaguar since it is a drum brake inside the rotor. And since it was a factory option nothing need to be changed beside calipers, brake lines, rotors and shields

Hi Luc, thank you very much for the insight. For the Penta rims (which I have and just had refinished), what doesn't clear? If its a depth thing, could I simply put say a 1/2" spacer on?
Did you pick up those calipers on line or from the dealer and do you have a part number for those Silverstone calipers? The ones I saw for the XK are JLM 21503/04.
Also you say the 'earlier type' 02-03 have an adapter, is that a part of the caliper setup or purchased separately? Thus do you know how late the direct bolt on's were made?
I have a local hydraulic hose company in town that will make whatever I need to spec, so those hoses won't be a big deal.
I initially thought I would have to upgrade my spindles/knuckles, but after I saw a couple XK conversions here on site I immediately began to question that. Thanks again for clarifying that.

Yes, it's depth and a spacer will do the job.
JLM21503/4 are the Silverstone calipers and fit with no modification to your 2000 XJR.
The adapter is part of the calipers and even if you can remove it, Jaguar warn you not to do it.
As I said caliper UP TO 2001 for sure are direct bolt on
Here is a link to a picture of the caliper and bracket: http://s192.photobucket.com/user/fra...92ddd.jpg.html
And I you read this thread, I explain all details and part #

Hi, Guys. I have a little sidetrack question to this topic

I happen to have the STR or later X350 XJR wheel spindles

Am I able to use the spindles for later year Brembo calipers(silver paint with red and green emblem) on our X308

wheel clearance is not a issue for me , since I am ready running X350 spec Senta wheel.
