Default A/C Compressor noise

The AC compressor in my XJ makes a constant low level noise. I asked the dealer and he said 'that's just the way it is made.' Has anyone else experienced this or more importantly does anyone have a solution? Thanks,

Can you hear it inside the car when it activates?
The system maybe low on lubrication, a trip to an aircon specialist would be a good place to get the answer.

Yes, the noise starts when it activates. The local Jaguar has given other misdiagnosis for problems so they are not a good source for repairs. Thanks,

My 1999 VDP AC compressor is making a lot of noise. Use a screw driver on the AC compressor when it is engaged to verify that it is making the noise.

Instead of messing around with lubricant, etc. I decided it was time (17 years) to replace the compressor. I bought a Denso compressor for $280 and am going to have it installed by and ac specialty shop. I am researching if I need to replace the drier (3 to 4 year life span?) and / or condensor replaced when i replace the compressor.

It has been reported that the compressor is a little difficult to remove - it is at the bottom of the engine and some items have to be moved or removed to get it out. What might be a $300 - $400 job may be $700 - $800 on the Jag.

The drier needs to be replaced when you replace the compressor. Your A/C shop will advise the same

Look to see if you have a Denso pump and the Denso part number ( looks like one ) . Yours may be a series 6 or 7 as mine is a 10 PA on the X300 . You may have a bad bearing in the compressor clutch that may be able to replace without touching the compressor as they don't last forever . You can replace the clutch bearing only . You may be able to remove the clutch while keeping the compressor mounted to the engine and save alot of money . You can find smaller repair parts on the Centuryautoair website . Yes on the dryer replacement if you overhaul or replace the compressor ( 30 - 35 dollars ) . Don't lose the O - ring seals on the refrigerant lines . If you take your compressor to a shop they can break the nut with a fee/ tip . I have the specific X300 part numbers but not the X308

Clutch bearings : appears to be part number MT2027 / 52mm outer diameter x 22mm Thick

Mine make a high-pitched whistle when it is engaged. Not too loud but audible in the car. Any ideas?

Recommend replacing the belt as it may be glazed and screech under load and keep the old one in the trunk as a spare . You can replace the clutch bearing as a least intrusive least expensive try and if that doesn't work you can go for the compressor . Easier said then done .

Anyone here actually replaced theirs clutch bearing and could confirm bearing size? I was thinking that this will require compressor removal so lived with the noise for the past 3 years as compressor is fine other than shot bearing, great that its not the case. I've already ordered said bearing, hopefully its correct size and that I can swap it soon and finally make my Jag noise free!
