Default Can you believe this guy?

I’ve been thinking is selling my 911 cabriolet and going with a XK8 or XKR convertible so I’ve been looking. Below is a local FB Marketplace ad. Don’t know if ripoff artist or just ignorant

This is an extremely clean jaguar xk8 convertible. Normal wear for the year, all paint is in excellent condition, no rips or tears inside. Drives like a dream. Just put new front struts on car 1 month ago. The price is reflected on the car because the engine is in limp mode and can be fixed at runway imports or any jaguar dealer. She starts but misses on all cylinders because of limp mode. A vehicle like this goes into limp mode when it suspects a theft. I don't have the diagnostic equipment to run a test but it gets spark and fuel but no air. So my lose is your gain. Everything works should, top goes up and down, has 2 keys and papers and title is in the electronic title but will pick one up this Thursday. Title is free and clear.

Please if you see car is up its still available. Also no trades cash only price is firm

It took me a moment to think about the ‘runway imports’ because James May drove his ‘restricted performance’ XK8 off of a runway in one of the Grand Tour episodes and rolled end over end down a steep hill. I thought that was a ‘fix’ for that car by the seller in FB. 😳

Btw, budget for all new top hoses as the green shower is common. The rubber deteriorates badly as those hoses age. Then the rubber sticks and gets everywhere that’s just a mess to clean up. Also, make sure the one you get has all the window weatherstripping in good shape as *I think* a lot of them are either NLA or extremely expensive to replace if you can get them. The only other exception would be if they are even available aftermarket. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Runway Imports is a foreign car repair shop next to the airport.

Don't buy it, problem solved. Whinging about someone trying to sell a car is hardly a valuable use of time.

If it was that easy to fix so you can get your price, wouldn't you go and get the fix done and call it a day instead of haggling with someone. Damned if this doesn't sound like an inspiring used car dealer.

"Nothing to see here"
...."Easy to fix"
...."Cash only"

My thoughts exactly. The vehicle "suspects" it's being stolen so it goes into limp home mode and it's not getting air? I hope some kid doesn't buy it thinking he can take it to a mechanic and fix it for a couple of hundred bucks when it has major issues.

*sigh*

"Some kid" should do their own research, and if they don't then they'll learn the hard way. Aren't there more important things in life to worry about than an imaginary scenario where some kid you don't know buys a car you've never seen from a seller you'll never ever interact with?

There was a post about a month ago with this exact scenario...literally bought the car (overpaid we're certain) in an alley and is now complaining about his findings as he delves deeper.

An XK8 Convertible that's not running well is worth next to nothing, seller is clueless and it will never sell. Are you seriously thinking of selling a 911 for an XK8? I'd rethink that if I were you.

Considering it for a couple of reasons. It's a 2003 C2 Cab with a six speed manual. Very fun car. Engine sound, especially with top down, is awesome. Not comfortable to drive (not that it is suppossed to be) because you feel every seam in the road. I always wanted one and have had it for three years. One main worry is that it's a $35,000 car with a $25,000 engine. The stock intermediate shaft bearing has been replaced with the EPS roller bearing. Engine still has numerous other known failure modes. I blew a coolant hose the other week. The heads are prone to cracking. Towed home and fixed. I was sweating bullets until the coolant pressure test showed no loss. If I sell, thinking an XRK or XK8 convertible. If go with XK8 I'd try to find one with a great body/interior and blown engine or tranny and do another LS swap. It can be done with a manual transmission.

If you're going to swap it with an LS and manual that makes sense. They are beautiful cars, but a bit boring stock when compared to a 911. I've never owned a 911, but every one I've driven was infinitely more satisfying and engaging to drive than my Jags.

I hear you on that engine though, definitely not the best years of the 911 and even when the IMS bearing is done they are sort of ticking time bombs and expensive to repair.

Best of luck with whatever you decide to do. Luckily XKs are very cheap and there are plenty to choose from.

Or you could do what hoovie did with Apollo 911 and LS swap your car like he did. I know it’s blasphemy to do such a thing considering purists and all but, at the end of the day it is your car.

Both convertible better build better total cars and much interior space I wanted to buy xk8 but it's very small inside and it's not smooth as the Mercedes

I have considered finding a 911 roller (blown engine) and doing that.
