Default Cats adaptive suspension shock Help!

So I have read the threads about CATS shocks and am more confused that when I started. Here is my problem. I have a 2003 xjr r1. I swapped out the rear end when mine failed at 75k miles, grinding the ring and pinon to pieces. When I got the car back together, I had a suspension fault. I tested the wires going to the shocks (which involved three hours of dismatling again) and found that the right rear shock shows an open circuit, while all of the others are about five to six ohms. So I presume my right rear shock is in need of replacement. The wiring is continuous.

Imagine the sticker shock seeing the prices for these shocks at over 350 bucks each. Part of the problem is that I did not write down the part numbers to my shocks, and there are dozens of variations. It is clear that the adaptive models are the ones I need to look at, and because I have an R1, I might need a different one. Does anybody know the correct one for sure? I don't want to take this apart again until I replace it.

Once I get the right part number, I will do an ebay notification alert and hopefully find a used one for half price, or get one from a wrecking yard....

Hi John
Update just received this email reply from Britishparts.co.uk - I have looked into your enquiry and the shock absorbers MNC3540EB will be correct for your vehicle providing you have adaptive damping on the vehicle and sports suspension.

John: You should call a Jaguar Dealership Parts Department and give them your vin number to find out the price.
They probably will not give the part number for the rear shock absorber, but they might confirm that a certain part number is the correct one.

I think that this part (MNC3540EB Rear Shock Absorber with cats sports suspension/adaptive control damping $297.75) might be the part number you need.

I did an internet search using the part number.

Britishparts.co.uk description is JAGUAR REAR SHOCK ABSORBER WITH CATS SPORTS SUSPENSION / ADAPTIVE CONTROL DAMPINGJAGUAR XJ8 - X308 V8 SPORTS XJR 1997 - 2002 ------ Their price is $359.14

I sent them email inquiring about the part number and price for 2003 XJR R1 part.

I will let you know the outcome of my email inquiry. See top of this posting for their reply email message.

The JEPC (Jaguar Electronic Parts Catalog) lookup for Vin range (812317 thru F59525) show rear damper (shock absorber) for adapting control dampering - sports suspension part MNC3540EB.

It might just be the link lead from the shock, through the floor to the main cabin loom, it's all of about 18 inches long. It might have been pinched by putting the suspension unit back in. Test your wiring before you shell out.

I only say this as I've not heard of the cat's going wrong, I've seen one, and that was due to the front suspension being pulled out.

I checked the wire continuity first, as the last time I had this problem that was it. This time I checked the resistance in each of the four shocks and found one different. It may be that there is no problem with the shock, but the resistance difference may be enough to trip the ecu to send a suspension fault and keep the system from working.

Got a new shock, $330 delivered, ouch, and put it in. (it was harder than it sounds.) SUspension fault went away, I was very happy. Fault is back intermittantly. Where else can I look for a ground problem, or a wire issue, or something.

I had an intermittent problem with mine and it turned out that the connector on one of the front shocks was not seated correctly even though the connector was clicked into place. No issues since re-seating the connector
